Palm Treo sales up despite impending merger

The streets have been buzzing lately with rumors of Palm Inc.’s impending sale, with analysts predicting a grim future for the smartphone manufacturer, as their "straight out of the 90’s design" has been floundering in the face of the increasingly competitive handheld sector. Spitting in the face of naysayers and haters alike, Palm announced record Treo sales over the past quarter. The company sold 738,000 units, an increase of 30% over the previous year, grossing them a cool $410 million. It’s unclear how, if at all, this news will affect Palm’s resale value, but it seems that the Treo, and all of its variants, haven’t kicked the bucket yet.

My wife got the Treo 680 – I’m actually a pretty big fan. It’s a nice device, despite all the nay sayers.

Yeah, I bought a Treo 680 and it’s great. I came from a Blackberry 8700c. There are pros and cons to each device, but the touchscreen is great once you get used to it. Plus there are a ton of great freeware programs.
