Yahoo gets local on phones

Starting yesterday in the US and spreading around the globe later this year, Yahoo search results made from mobile phones will be customized to the zip code the search comes from. It’s called Yahoo OneSearch, and according to Sr. VP of Yahoo’s Connected Life business unit, they "are now putting search on every mobile phone that has a browser." A search for a movie that is playing will return local theatres where it is playing, user reviews, and news related to the movie. Yahoo’s results are listed on one page in headline format and categorized by type. Finding the same results using Google’s mobile search takes a number of additional steps. Yahoo has signed deals to include this in four out of the five major cell phone carriers: Nokia, Motorola, Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. It’s included in Yahoo! Go service and can be downloaded on a large variety of phones today.

I really like the new Yahoo mobile, but there are still some Google services that are better, like Google Local.

I use Tappity.com. Tappity allows users to combine a bunch of different mobile websites onto a customized mobile homepage, including those offered by Google, Yahoo, and hundreds of other providers that are submitted by users.

Well for anyone that might actually care. I have finally run this program through its hoops and I must say that it is not as bad as you can imagine. It runs smoothly, while installation is not the best since it takes to long you can eventually live with it as soon as it is done. The other little problem is the fact that it occupies the entire screen but switching through the application tab combination button it is possible to jump back to other programs. It is a great little tool and if google made anything more powerful it would have to include html viewing on emails so it is cleaner and smoother. Well if you have any question I don’t mind answering them.
