BlackBerry 8300 launching on at&t within weeks?

File this one under unconfirmed, and unsubstantiated rumors, but a reader of ours has sent us a tip saying that the BlackBerry 8300 will be launching on at&t in the coming weeks. "3-4 weeks" to be exact. I’m working on confirming this info at this very moment but is it too farfetched to think that we could see the 8300 launch before the rumored May/June timeframe? It’s been a very long while since RIM’s consumer-centric device, the BlackBerry Pearl, launched on T-Mobile. Now that the BlackBerry 8800 is out and about this is obviously the next device down the pipeline. With the cell phone market growing faster every day, and fad phones launching every other week, it just may be that RIM has to have a go yet once again in the consumer sector. Let’s just hope it’s sooner than later. For our sake, and for their sake. One reason to doubt this is that the BlackBerry 8800/8820 hasn’t even launched on T-Mobile…Time will tell!
Thanks, coldcc!
UPDATE: It does look like April is the whispered launch month, but things could change so don’t sell your BlackBerry 8800 just yet. at&t is going to position it as a media device (obviously) to join the Pearl. Price point should be around $250 with activations.

I hope so, I’m only going to upgrade from my 8703e if it has a camera,wi-fi and mp3 playback. Wait I’m with sprint….almost time for the switch to cingular for a new berry or the iphone.
Thanks for the news.
Awesome! Bring it on already…!!
Can’t wait for this!! I love my 8700 but really really miss the camera much more than I would have thought. Don’t care too much about the WiFi, but a decent resolution camera for those unexpected photo ops is key! Also, the headphone thing rocks!
BG:
The rumored model for release you’re talking about will have a camera, but no GPS or Wifi, correct?
I dont get why at&t will get two new blackberry devices and t-mobile still does not have one…. Also these guys at the t mobile store keep saying April a new blackberry is coming out can this be the 8300 rather then the 8800?
Looks like RIM is going to the throat of it’s competition! There will be blood gushing from their throats. The 8300 looks great and while I love my 8800, the 8300 will be very nice to own. Poor Apple, iPhone is still only in the rummor stage!
to bad i just got a pearl from tmobile o well this device is pretty light thought. So with the possible software upgrades I dont see why they couldnt add the software updates on the pearl like the spell check and what not. If i find anything out I’ll post again
course trying not to lose job ya know
T-Mo is supposed to have their 3G network ready in April or May – perhaps June.
Maybe a 3G blackberry?
Or maybe a few new options for T-Mo in April – maybe a hermes with 3G and the BB 8300?
LOVE the features
HATE the Treo-esque design
8800 looks like a sturdier device. Is it?
B.G – you already know what I’m looking for so I’m not gonna mention you still have no news on the verizon/sprint world phone blackberrys but you still my dude on with two fingers on the trigger. But yea the best thing about the 8300 so far is that new headphone jack.
Will the updated software features of the 8300 be passed on to or available on the 8800?
The 8300 has no GPS right?
Daniel – there are three vesions of the 8300. The 8300 and the 8320 will not have GPS. The difference will be wi-fi, 8300 no 8320 yes. The 83xx (Papa Bear) will have GPS, camera and wi-fi. BGR did an article last week about the differences.
Cingular/ATT is getting the BB’s because they are the largest BB carrier. Most BB’s in service. Just makes sense to offer more to those customers. Alot of 8800 buyers were just replacing devices, but the Pearl brought alot of new users. Much love to the 8100!!
BG,
Still trying to rationalize why RIM would be launching the BB 8300 so soon after the launch of the BB 8800. From what I’ve been reading, a lot of users who have gone out and got a BB 8800 are saying they are going to return it and get the BB 8300.
What will this do to RIM’s market share? And on top of this, rumour has it that RIM will be launching BB 88xx in Q-2. I know this will ultimately give us all more choices, but should we WAIT until these launches have taken place before we decide to get the BB we want?
Thanks for any clarification you can provide.
CarBob
Doesn’t make sense that RIM would
can someone tell T-Mobile to get this please! eff cingular haha. i love myFaves. so yeah T-Mobile. get the new Blackberry 8300. first with the pearl be first with the 8300
wow thats neat
I am confused about a couple things. First off, thanks BG for sharing this precious information with us. I am thankful that I heald off and did not buy a 8800. Second, why do people compare the 8300 to a treo? I don’t see the physical resemblance at all. Third, everyone that is talking about cingular getting the 8300 before tmo gets the 8800 has to understand, BG did not make an official launch out of this post, this is a soft release. Its not known for sure or not if we are going to see the 8300 before a tmo release, who knows, there is still time for anything to happen right? Hopefully though, the 8300 will be out sooner than later, I am very excited!
Yea! Maybe Sprint will come out with this next week!!!! We In Sprint land can only hope! I have to hum “You gotta have faith”, wasn’t that Boy George that sang that song?
Speaking of sprint – good article about why the backwards U.S. CDMA (etc) technology and the refusal to adopt the global GSM standards severely hurts us in getting the latest and greatest phones: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17154970/
Can anyone confrim on the color? I’m partial to the black blackberry :[
I’m so excited! The headphone jack pretty much makes my year, I’m SO tired of carting both the BlackBerry and iPod. Now let’s hope the media player on it is decent so that iPhone can be put out of business. I really hate the idea of a touch-screen keypad.
WE NEED THIS FOR SPRINT! i do at the least!
Can somebody tell me what the differences are between the 8800 and the 8300. I currently have the veriozon 8703e and am going to switch to Cingular. It looks like waiting for the 8300 will be the move. Let me know.
We have been testing a pre-release version of the 8300 for a short while now. We hope everyone appreciates that due to NDA we have to sit back tight lipped while the speculation and grainy leaked photographs make their way around the internet, but we’re convinced that the new BlackBerry 8300 will have been worth the wait.
