Finally, the man himself, Mr. Just Blaze took time out of his busy schedule to send us over the much awaited OQO 2 video review! Check out Part 1 here for now, Part 2 will be up in the next couple minutes!
UPDATE: Make sure to take a look at Part 2 which is available after the jump.

Good review, I still cant see how a device like that is useful for people in the Smart phone age though.

Great review, liked the pace and style compared to other bloggers. Glad you mentioned the keyboard and the screen protector. Both very important points.
thanks

its not useful for EVERYone in the smartphone age… but its not meant for everyone either.. if it was it wouldnt be 2 grand plus. i tell u this tho.. in the month or 2 that ive had it, its come thru for me in quite a few ways a smartphone never could. and believe me, I have them all… literally. just last week when i had to approve a video clip for my youtube channel and it had to go up FAST. it was sent to me and there was somethign i didnt like.. did afew edits, sent it back to my guy and it was up online within 20 minutes. thats a small example, I could go on but it’s not necesarry. It’s not meant for everyone. just those who have a use for this type of functionality..

Nice looking device. Now if only I had 2000 dollars. Great review too. Oh yeah by the way I like the look of BGR 1.5!

This device is great, and it will be a strong competitor for any of the mobile computing devices out now. While I have no doubt as J said that it is not meant for everyone I do believe that it should be accessible to a few more people. I don’t mind lugging my laptop around but having this would make it almost possible for me to move easily around. I have to commend yo on just being such awesome group, I will wait to see how this device does when released in a 3g version, maybe then I will get it.

With regards to the screen scratching. It’s my understanding that production OQOs will come with a screen protector already attached. Could it be this that is easily scratched on your model? I hope so.

Aww dangit - whatever new video codec / player you’re using, I can’t view it at work. Silly Citigroup.

I have no problems here at Merrill. BG makes the day go by so much faster.

Damn, but that was a great review. Nicely done! It makes me doubly glad that I ordered this instead of the Flipstart. It looks like they took the keyboard of my beloved HP 200LX, made the keys a little fatter and put them on this. I agree, the inclusion of a Windows key would have been nice. Here is a great application launcher that would be perfect for the OQO:

It’s freeware, but a donation is encouraged. If this works on my OQO, a donation will be made.
I ordered it without the wireless EVDO radio…got a Verizon data plan, and I don’t need two separate plans.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes for folks to receive their units.
Thanks for a great review!!! And…always get a screen protector and slap that on your unit before doing anything else with it! I am getting the one from OQO, but if Boxwave releases one, I’ll get it. Boxwave and Brando protectors are extremely durable.

I was in the market for a portable computer. I was looking at the VAIO that Sony offered also.

JB, have you had a chance to try this with any production software such as floops or a simple sequencer for those long airplane trips?
Also whats the battery life on that and is it wifi compatible?

Do you have the tablet version or just the regular XP version?
I’d like to see how well inking works on that screen size.

Review tells us nothing we don’t already know about the unit and how it works. Kinda lame really!

It’s really cool that Just Blaze did this review. It certainly increases the cool factor. However, I’m an Apple-head, so when Apple develops such a device, I’ll plop down 2 grand for it. As is, my iPhone is sufficient. The only features it lacks are document editing, and I have a Macbook Pro for that sooo…I can’t justify this for myself. But’s it’s not bad as a Windows laptop replacement.

So I’ve changed my mind. I have TWO MacBook Pros, so I decided to sel my older one and get this OQO 2. I’ve only had it for a few hours, but I am loving the fact that I can access Windows only apps that I can’t on the Mac and iPhone like MTV.com (where I work) and Live Maps’ Street view — so cool. I can’t wait to install Slingbox’s app on it.

I have had my OQO 02 since April, and I adore it. I did not like the 01+, but I love the 02. It is the best portable device I have ever owned.

I like the size but hate thumb devices and would not buy one until they make a touch type version.
