BlackBerry 8300 In Hand
Ok, I’m calm now. BlackBerry 8300 in hand and here we go. It’s a little thinner, and smaller than the BlackBerry 8800. I guess you could call it a cross between the Pearl and the 8800 series. The speaker really sounds outstanding — even better than the 8800’s! I also find the keyboard to be much easier to use, a la 8700-style. It’s small but very manageable and responsive. Rumors said that the 8300 would have video recording but from what I’ve heard, they wont, and this unit doesn’t make an exception there. There is also no WiFi on this version at least. In terms of the construction, the front is plastic, but the sides and back have a soft touch rubber finish, and a shiny black plastic battery cover completes the device. Very Nice! I’m not going to get into heavy details, and features just yet but some OS improvements include built in spell check, full screen mode for playing videos, the ability to create your own folders on the home screen, and move any applications in and out of those folders! Silly me, I forgot to mention the OS on the device I have is at&t branded…discuss. Check out the rest of the flicks after the jump!

Question…
With the BlackBerry 8300 - can you attach a .jpg file (stored in device) to send with an e-mail?
Thank you.

Can we attach a stereo headset to it?

Just got my 8300 evaluation unit from T-Mobile, and I guess I will not give it back
Yes, stereo headset works fine with it, and the device has GPS… I am not sure if there is any reason for me to keep the 8800.
Everything works like with the 8800, except that the 8300 has camera and stereo audio, and spell check. And something called MDS, no idea yet what this is..

How do you become a tester or evaulator of the new BB? When is T-mobile coming introducing the 8300?

Holger,
Have you used the GPS with BB Maps or Google maps? Does the GPS really work or is it just a menu pick? All the other evaluators said there is no GPS inside the 8300, but a menu pick to connect to an external GPS device.
Thanks,
James

Sorry, I was not clear enough here: the GPS works fine, but does need an external GPS unit. I use the one by Nokia, which works fine. The software works fine with BB maps /called Road Maps here) and supports GPS. While Google maps on my 8800 also supports GPS, I miss this on the 8300 unit, but already noticed some threads about this issue on the web. might be a software issue. Will try to install the 8800 version on the 8300…
T-Mobile says the 8300 (called Curve in Germany) is ready to be shipped by June. Rumours say the 8300 be priced below the currently announced value
Marketing is placing the unit between the 8100 and 8800. So just wait a while…
RIM told my they are working on a body fix and a face lift for the 8800, let’s see.
My 8300 evaluation unit has one fault: once it is off, you cannot switch it on anymore… Battery removal is a workaround here, but I will give it back to the factory..
The world turns quickly here .-)))

For professional users / companies, ordering a 2 year mobile phone contract, T-Mobile Germany announced the 8300 for just EUR 47.- It goes for EUR 290,- without any contract.
I expect the piece to become quite successful - but they need to get rid off the little bugs in there. My device did not let itself switch on again, once it was off. And after using it for 3 weeks, it simply stopped sending/receiving mails. I have sent it back now, and wait for a new one.

Owner of a 8300 and it is a plastic piece of crap. Sure theyre are a few good things but everytime I pick it up it sounds like its going to fall apart. This phone is nothing but plastic. For the first week the phone was operating well, but then everything started acting slow. EXTREMLY slow response times!!! it would take me 10 seconds after pressing a button for anything to happen. Sucks no wifi also.
