Mac Mini Minus The Mac
In a move that is sure to spark the legal wrath of Apple Inc., Chinese manufacturer AOpen has launched this little Window’s box that more than slightly resembles Apple’s pint-sized workhorse. Specs are pretty unimpressive, featuring an Intel Celeron 1.4 GHz processor, 40 GB drive, and 512 MB of RAM. We’ll see if this one makes it to our shores, but my gut says…..not a chance in hell.

UPDATE: J.R. has kindly brought our attention to the fact that this baby is, indeed, currently available in the U.S. buy.com has the Core 2 Duo variety for $355, so if you fancy a miniature PC on the cheap, look no further. Thanks J.R.!

As much as I love apple products, I honestly don’t see how Apple can get too upset. Essentially they can’t trademark form factor forever.

Sorry to break it to you guys but the AOpen Mini has been around for a while now. They have configurations that include Core 2 Duo procs, up to 2 GB RAM, TV tuners, Bluetooth, WiFi, etc… and all available in the states through buy.com, pcclub.com, and many other retailers. No Apple suit so far and it’s been a few years now. Sorry, you’re a bit late on this one.

They call MAC lovers lemmings but all copy their aesthetics…from George Foreman Grills to low-end lunchbox PC’s. Ironic, isn’t it?
