Just got mine back from the repairer. It turned off and would not turn back on again. The phone was fine before, but it has now got the bump problem that everyone above is describing.

the guy at this site figured out a way around it. maybe he would be willing to share. i love mine, but i do wish it had an FM receiver feature. Oh well, i got a sandisk MP3 player before the phone and it does that , so im good.

I have had my W880i for 3 months now and im far from happy with it! in the past 3 months i have been in situations where i have needed to make emergancy calls to people and emergancy services and my phone just wont get a good enough signal to make a call. I have my phone on contract so im going to send it back!

hey guys…does this phone works for tmobile sim card? because i tried putting in one but it doesnt g et no signal at all. it reads my contacts and everything fine. but it keps sayin no network coverage. i’ve tried other people sim cards also..

thinking about purchasing this phone in the states. it certainly feels great and seems to work great at the sony style store.
anyone have any advice and/or info about how it performs on AT&T in the US?
maybe the new version will be debugged…cheers

I got that phone for a week now and it’s awesome!! audio is good, the screen (even a bit small) is good, menus/firmware rocks, design is really nice.
So far, my only concern is about the signal, I am with ATT in the US, and I already have more drop calls than with my RAZR I had for 2 years before … I tried to look in the settings, not very familiar with this, I tried to disable the 3G, not better … anyone could get this fixed? I have a 3G sim card (as mentionned as a solution hiher in the thread).

but when I have signal, the phone is just… great!!

i have used and owned over 200 mobiles including the iphone bberry all nokia and lg, samsung motto and pana this is the best phone on the market…. but the carriers stuff up the firmwear and it doesnt perform to its original specs

Hi, guys. I just got this phone a week ago.

It’s a great phone and I’m happy with it.
I have one problem with it, though- but I’m not 100% sure its due to the phone itself.
My credit balance falls dramatically every other day. I don’t know if it’s because the phone connects to the internet automatically, or if it connects when I run the java game provided (have been playing it a lot), or if it’s a problem caused by the service provider.

Has anyone had simillar problems?

hi, ive had this phone sice summer but there is one major problem.

the camera wont work,every time i try to start it it says ” another application is running Close it, thrn start the camera”
ibe tried to reset it and upgrade it but it wont work, and i dont have any waranty for the phone, so is there anything i can do to fix it without going to a repair shop?,because i aint got the money to fix it.

i had the same problem just pull it out as far u can with fingers so its sticking out just a tiny bit then with a small pair of scissors gently pull out the sim card. do not worry this will not damage the sim it is quite a strong little thing

This is the most unuseable phone I have ever had. It’s terrible. It is just so slow and unresponsive!
At the end of a call does anyone else constantly find themselves in the “Events” menu by accident?
A few days ago I turned the phone on and received 1 voice mail and 2 text messages. It took me nearly TEN minutes to read and listen to them!

Has anyone managed to resolve this issue of slow/freezing menus yet? I have already made sure the phone is on the latest version (Settings > General > Update Service > Search for update). Mine is with Orange.

Has any1 else noticed that with there w880i whenever it gains a little knock like dropping it onto a bed or when i just drop it into your pocket it turns off?

I’m wondering if anyone can help, i recently brought a second hand w880i and it has workied fine. after changing to cover to a pretty pink one i suddenly lost signal and it hasnt come back yet! any idea what i could’ve done? the signal never went straight after i changed the cover but a few hours after, please help. i need my phone back!

Slightest bump and the phone turns off. Phone is in my pocket or on my desk and often turns itself off without even being touched.

Turns itself off about 4 times a day on average. Border line unuseable.

If anyone finds a solution let me know.

Based on this experience I won’t be buying Sony phones again.

I also had the problem with phone not recording missed calls when I first got it. You need to clear the call log – go into the calls menu, select ‘more’ and then delete all. I only needed to do this once a couple of days after I got the phone, since then it has worked fine.

Does anyone know how/where I can get a simple single ‘beep’ tone to use as ringtone and message alert? I only want it to beep once, subtlely, like my old nokia. Some of us don’t like fancy ringtones…!

I hate this phone. How can a phone be classed as a phone if it can’teven recored missed calls. How the hell are you meant to be able to see who has been calling? So many little faults. Like it doesn’t play the ringtones i have selected for different people. Ive not experienced the switching off on its own phenomena yet, but i guess that will happen soon. Ive no insurance on this phone, does anyone think tmobile will sot it out without me paying loads?

There’s no radio hardware as such, so any radio functionality would be downstreamed from the net, at which point you may or may not be interested due to the cost.

That’s easy! After you click on ‘INBOX’ to check who’s messaged you, click on ‘MORE’ on the screen (that’s the top RHS button), then scroll down the options, and find ‘LIST OPTIONS’, open this menu and select ‘NO DETAILS’.

Easy cheesy! Now your inbox only contains the name/or number of whoever SMS you.

Overall, this is one neat phone. No problems with texting, no problems with reception, no bluetooth problems, no switching itself off problems, no battery problems, no time delay problems and I’ve been using this for over 8 months.

My only gripe so far is the Walkman navigation software feature – I like to play my songs at random and from different artists by my own control, and the process of going back to ‘Artists’ or ‘Playlist’ is much too time consuming and takes many unnecessary steps. If SE can develop a shortcut to jump back to playlist at a single click, then I will consider the 880 to be a near perfect cellphone.
