Unboxing: HTC Vox

The HTC Vox aka S710 is a device BGR readers are surely accustomed to by now, right guys? Then we showed you the real phone here remember. Ever since leaking the first photo of the phone online the Vox has truly interested me. A smartphone with a screen that flips from portrait to landscape, courtesy of Windows Mobile 6 Standard, and a slide out, spring-assisted keyboard complete with great speakers can’t go wrong. Well, our first impressions agree! HTC is really leading the pack right now shutting down any kind of competition while making really quality constructed and well thought products. The only thing lacking here is 3G which would have really sealed the deal, but hey, the features simply out way the cons. Click on for the rest of the unboxing shots!

UPDATE: The camera is simply outstanding! The viewfinder refresh rate and clarity I have never seen on a mobile device like this, and the actual picture quality is the same. I have NEVER seen a 2 megapixel camera spit out images quite like these! Take that Nokia! Will post sample shots soon.

I am curious to see more photos too.
Aside from the Samsung i760, are there any devices out there that a) run Windows Mobile b) slide open to reveal a QWERTY keypad c) have the 0-9 keys on outside of the device (not a full QWERTY, i.e. Treo 750) and d) have a touchscreen?

The problem with a touch screen on a phone like this is that you can’t just put it in your pocket. With a non-touch screen I just slip my Dash in my pocket and don’t worry about the screen (I’ve heard reports of cracked LCD’s, but haven’t had a problem yet).

Is there any way to import this phone in from Canada? I’d love to get the Vox. Better than the Nokia N95? (Kidding, what’s better than the N95?)

Also, BG, please post sample pics.

Also, any idea how this phone compares to the P4550, aka the HTC Kaiser? I like the tilted screen:

Currently an imate jamin user, but using the jamin as a regular phone and having to use a stylus are a bit of a pain. Two positives for this device then. The two negatives are no GPS integrated and it doesn’t score in the looks department………

I was comparing the S710 and the S730. They seem to be largely the same phone. Faster processor in the S730 and the S730 also has a job wheel which I’m not aware of in the S710. The thing that I couldn’t understand is the number of keys on the phone. I’m referencing the specs on pdadb.net. These state the S710 has 37 keys and the S730 has 31 keys. The keys on the slide out qwerty and the numeric pad seem to be the same. Are there keys on the side that are different?

One other big difference I noticed is the internal GPS. That with a processor running at twice the clock speed are enough to make me wait. But I would still be interested if anyone knows what accounts for the 6 less keys on the S730 than on the S710.
