Unboxing: Nokia E65

I’m gonna’ start this off by saying how cool of a slider this is! As soon as you pick it up you instantly appreciate the build quality and detail on the phone. The sliding mechanism works great — no hangups, no real forcefull pushing. Something that was suprising is how thin, and small the device is. This model in particular is the mocha/silver colored combination and the feel of the phone is great — the texture of it, and the leather back really make it stand out. What Nokia has done is really aimed at the business market like everyone knows except, they added useful features unlike a lot of other companies. We have a dedicated conference call button by the d-pad, a dedicated mute button, phonebook button, and web browser button. Genius! Come on, how many times are you on a call wishing to mute it except you have to fend for yourself by digging through menus to try and find a mute option. One feature which isn’t very Nokia-like is the camera. Although it’s a 2 mega-pixel it doesn’t have a flash, or auto-focus and really doesn’t spit out good, solid pics. The video quality wasn’t as bad, and the speakers were pretty good. Click on for the rest of the unboxing shots!

conference, phonebook, browser, mute buttons.

the detail on the phone is incredible.

Awesome! BG, how does this compare to to say the N75? The reason I ask is cause the N75 doesn’t look like it’s going to be released and I’m looking for Alternatives. Does it have S60v3 FP1?

Does anyone encounter the same problem. Occasionally I press on the new SMS key, it read the SMS instead of display. And so far, using for a week, it actually auto reboot 2 times.

    The e65 sucks

    I recognise the pictures but……..

Fonts not changeable and are small and virtually unreadable. Spoke to nokia they confirm that new symbian software does not support larger fonts – what a lame excuse!!! Sack symbian!!!!

Video calling camera is not front facing – useful as chocolate fire guard!!!

This probably the worst functionally designed phone ever from noikia.

I am surprised you devoted so much print to this load of crap from nokia!!!

This must be quick recall if nokia is to keep their reputation in tact.

It supports Skype calls, 3 in Australia offer this as part of the X Series service, I imagine it depends on your provider

    This is a great phone.
I got mine a few hours ago and already it’s kicked my N80’s ass.

I got the N80 for all the bells and whistles but fast discovered that using the radio or MP3 player killed the battery so I ended up carrying my iPod anyway, then It wouldn’t work with my IMAP email so I ended up carrying my PDA again, and the battery wouldn’t last a whole day so I ended up carrying my work mobile too instead of diverting calls to the N80.

This phone is clearly aimed at business users, I never made video calls with my old phone so I won’t miss features like that, the email is first class and it’s got things back up to the standard they were before the N80 ruined my life.

hello there - how are you doing with your E 65? I am now on my third one - the first I kept a week - the second about the same, and now a third. All of them didn’t hold a charge for more than about 18 hours with very few calls or texts. This newest one has just run down completely in less than 24 hours with no calls at all. also, I’ve found that it switches itself off completely sometimes when i answer a call. Can anyone concur with this experience? Any comments?

I am also on my third E65. The first one wouldn’t hold a charge for more than 8 hours. With the second one, the keypad backlighting stopped working after a couple of days. And now, on the third one, the keypad lights have just stopped working after having this new handset for a couple of weeks.

There are obviously some serious defects with this model.

I have had both problems. After having the phone for about a month the keypad lights stopped working and are barely visible. It has also turned itself off at least 6 or 7 times in the past month when the battery is full. Obviously this is a very common problem!

Trying hard to like the E65 from Nokia - difficult to be 100% enthusiastic though. Experienced the same problems as most - switches itself off, buzzes annoyingly and font way to small. Finding that texting has some frustrating issues especially the closeness of the c (clear) key to the red close key - result lots of messages ending up in the drafts folder.
Phone looks good tho - main problem text size!

Phone is a great business phone. On my third now, but am having my first run in with keypad lights. WLAN access works well, FRING useful for skype out calls. Buzzing, overheating, crashes, & insufficient horsepower to run software are all problems. Sync works great with Mac and PC, and Exchange plug in is very effective alternative to BlackBerry.
