Unboxing: Pharos PTL600

While it’s not the finest Pocket PC creation, we would never turn down an opportunity to unbox! The Pharos PTL600 combines built-in GPS with quad-band EDGE in a nice small form-factor. Speaking of boxes, this box contains a ton of accessories usually left up to the consumer to buy separately. Included is the obvious, like a home charger, USB cable, and headphones. The nice additions are a charging cradle, mounting stand for your car (to use that built-in GPS of course), leather case and car charger. I don’t care too much for the device itself to be honest. The navigation keys are poorly constructed leaving you trying too hard to push the right key. The d-pad is almost flush with the case so it is not an easy task even navigating what is supposed to be simple things. The GPS worked fine, and it comes with the maps on a 2GB included MicroSD card. Call quality was average, but I wasn’t too thrilled with the screen. Just looked cheap to me. Nevertheless check out the pics after the bounce!

I would expect a dozen doughnuts when opening a box that looks like that.
I actually purchased this unit unlocked, and inserted my t-mobile card in it. Phone is very good, no drop calls or too much static at all. Internet connecting by GPRS, EDGE IS EXCELLENT.
Unlike Verizon, or ATT, with their iphone, you can do wide internet data free of charge.
The only much needed improvement would be a better lasting battery, thus I purchased an almost twice the power of the original. It works great!
They said it comes with Windows mobile 5, but mine came with W mobile 6. professional. You can upgrade it for free also. works excellent with W Vista. The GPS is good when you think you have other good extras bundled on this pharos ptl 600 phone set. if you make GPS a priority then do like me : get a PGS device by itself.
