Samsung’s New Home Stereos In A Box

Samsung has announced plans to release two home theatre systems that fit conveniently into a box for transporting and storage. The HT-TXQ120 and the HT-TX250 both feature 5.1 surround speakers, USB 2.0 for DivX, MP3, WMA, and JPEG listening and viewing. That’s not all, they are wireless ready, and feature Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic and DTS audio decoding. The more expensive TXQ120 features a mind-blowing 1000 watt amplifier, 1080i HD upconverting DVD player, and 9.1 Virtual 360° Surround Sound, while the more affordable TX250 makes do with a measly slot-load vertical DVD player. Both are available in glossy black with the TXQ120 beginning in March and the TXQ120 in April.

For those of us who bought 5.1 systems eight years ago and haven’t been paying attention to the market since then, can you explain what you mean by ‘wireless ready’? The rear speakers can be made wireless somehow, or the whole box is WiFi somehow, or… I don’t get it. Seems like the speakers are wireless or they aren’t, and if they aren’t you’d just need to buy an adapter (they make little wireless amps for making unpowered speakers “wireless”, don’t they?) to do so. Help me out here.
