LG HDTV’s With Built-In Hardrives

Here’s an interesting piece of news. LG has just announced their XCanvas line of High Definition televisions. Currently available in Europe only, these new screens come in 37", 42", 47" LCD flavors and two plasma variants at 50" and 60" a piece. Each unit features a built-in 160GB hard drive for ripping HD content viewing at a later time, much like current stand alone DVR units. A USB port allows easy offloading of content for use on other devices, though there’s no word on whether this content will contain any type of DRM. Prices range from $2500 to $9400.

UPDATE: As several of our dedicated readers have pointed out, this beast is in fact currently available stateside. My apologies for the misprint, but my mistake is your gain; head down to your local Best Buy and pick one of these baby’s up this afternoon!

That’s interesting, but based on what I would imagine is a problem for HD-DVD or BluRay to prevent that HD content from being ripped
