getting a Blackberry 8800 from T-Mobile they say GPS is free with the unlimited 19.99 e-mail i always have. My Question is the GPS worth a Damn? My Pearl is dieing bad buttons bad mouse and battery is ging bad after 2 years. Another Question is it worth it $200 more for the 8820? I just want a new Blackberry and the 8800 is the best price with GPS from T-Mobile. Another Question is T-Mobile keeping up with tech amoung the other carriers? Thanks, Joe. How is the 8800 for PDa functions? I want something that will replace my PDA so that I can read and manipulate Word and Excel documents. Is the Calendar function easy to read and resopnd to?

The RIM site show that Firmware 4.2.2 update is only being show as valid for the 8830, of the 88XX series, and not for the 8800. Does anyone have a url or posting from RIM that shows other than this?

Does anyone have any info if Nextel will be carrying the BlackBerry 8800 or any BlackBerry for that matter?
The last BB Nextel released was the 7100i which was over 2 1/2 yrs. ago.

Once again, April 23rd is given as the date for the 8800 roll out for T-Mobile. Here is part of the email I received from Customer Care inquiring re. the 8800 and 8320:

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile customer care. My name is Matthew and I will be happy to help you out today.

I understand from your email that you would like to know if we will offer the Blackberry 8800 or the 8320 in the future as you are eager to replace your lost Blackberry with one of these models. I know how exciting state of the art equipment can be Brian and I can definitely look into this for you today. I am sorry to hear that your handset has been lost.

I am pleased to let you know that while I have no information on the 8320, the 8800 will be launching to all customers on April 23rd, although it may not necessarily be available in-store on this date (it will be available through Customer Care). I do not have a price for this device at this time but you will be able to review the price once it launches. I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Talked with a T-Mobile customer service rep this evening. I inquired as to whether they would be carrying the 8800 or 8300 series phones. He put me on hold and did some digging. Came back and told me that the 8800 would be released on T-Mobile sometime during the third or fourth week of April. He had no info on the 8300. Want the camera and keyboard of the 8300, but really like the looks of the 8800 and can’t wait another month for them to role out the 8300. Guess I’ll be getting the 8800 in a week or two.

hey BG.. one question.. or a couple. i will be traveling a lot in these upcoming months and wanted to know if there are prepaid sims for the BB 8800 outside the u.s? or do i have to sign special dedicated blackberry contracts? if so, are these dedicated contracts rare or hard to find? i don’t want to have to go through the hassle of looking for rare things (like looking for apple programs), you know what i mean? thanks BG.

BG – thanks for the report… I read at another site that WIFI will be available as model 8820. Can you confirm/deny this. I don’t get the reason as to why make a non-WIFI model and then sell a WIFI model 3 months out. I’m sure those that get the non-WIFI model will be kicking themselves. IMHO, it’s worth to wait for the WIFI. This is something that neither moto Q nor blackjack have. I also hope that WIFI is available w/o the Camera otherwise my Co. won’t allow it or may allow it if there is a way of disabling the camera.

Any idea as to how long Verizon will take to carry the 8800/8820? If it is a 9 month wait, I think I’ll switch to cingular.

For those of that want an unlocked one – check on ebay, they are selling for a cool $1k, but I’d be cautious of buying it from them when 2/20 is around the corner.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I emailed the tech support at RIM to get an answer once and for all on the A2DP issue. This is the response RIM gave me, “At this time, the BlackBerry 8800 handheld software version does not support A2DP. However, this is something the development team are working and should be in support for future software update on the BlackBerry 8800.” So it is bad news but with a silver lining.
