Hands On: BlackBerry 8800!

Coming in svelte black and chrome here is the new BlackBerry 8800! I am happy to show everyone this fantastic device from every-which-angle possible. The OS seems to loads way faster than the Pearl, and the speaker sounds a lot better. The feel of the device is great and the keyboard is just as good and functional as the 8700 so no worries out there power 8700 users! The screen? Oh man, the screen! The Cingular release will not have WiFi, but this unit does. Look for a WiFi 8800-style berry coming shortly after the launch of the 8800 on Cingular which is later this month, on the 20th. Click on for the full picture set here first, only on Boy Genius Report!

Check out the “Set Up WiFi” snapshot. Is it possible that the early word that WiFi would not be enabled on the Cingular model is incorrect?

Should we expect a WiFi enabled version from Cingular, something like 8820, after the 8800 gets released or will WiFi be available only from other providers?

Could you post an image of the 8700 lying down next to a 8800 so that we can see the difference in thickness?
    Thanks!

Any idea whether or not the Cingular version will support GPS? Why, oh why, do the carriers keep locking out features?!?

BG did it again, great pics, I dont see why you guys would want to use wifi with a wap browser, yea you will have higher transfer rates, but its still wap pages, whats the deal? I am ready to cop regardless of wifi, its not a major selling point or maybe someone can persuade me different. BG still waiting for Just to get at me! lol

It would be great to see a shot of the 8800 compared with the 8700 and 8100 side-on to get an impression of the differences in thickness….

If the Cingy version will not have WiFi, who will? BG, do you know how soon it will be out? That would be worth waiting for to me, if it was soon.
So, is the WiFi version the Crimson on T-Mob?
Thanks for the sweet coverage! You rock, BG!!!!!

Anyway you can clarify for us whether the Cingular 8800 has a WiFi chip in it that could be software-enabled at a later date? Seems like there have been enough demo 8800s that have it…

BG thank you for the great shots. Yesterday BB Cool posted that Cingular will have an 8800 release event on February 20, 2007.

So far I have resisted the Pearl. I want QWERTY, but will the 8800 from Cingular provide me with a superior talking or emailing device over my 7290? Will the 8800 solve the dropping of calls by Cingular, when a push email is trying to come in while I am talking, as happens on my 7290, and also happens on my bosses Pearl?

An earlier interview BG gave on another Blog site makes me wonder if I should switch now (I don’t like the phone on the 7290), or wait for the Q4 ‘07 release of the 9xxx from Cingular. I never thought I would get caught up in this kind of vacillation
