Hands On: Verizon Motorola MAXX Ve

Ever since the leaked photo from Motorola, the Verizon MAXX Ve has been lurking in the deep waters never to be found. That is ofcourse until today. Sportin’ a much larger external display than it’s GSM cousin, the Verizon unit looks dramatically better. Some other changes are a 2 mega-pixel Auto Focus camera, and keypad layout. Everything seemed to be pretty fast, for a Verizon UI. The camera worked very well auto-focusing shots before taking the final click, and MP3 controls on the outer screen were responsive. The rest of the pics are after the jump!

I like the gadget porn as much as the next guy, but I really would’ve appreciated some hard information about it.

I’m glad image quality was good, but how long between when you push the button and the picture is actually taken?

What’s the video quality like? Is it limited to 352×244x15fps for no more than 15 seconds, or do I have 640×480x30fps (with sound!) that lasts until I run out of space to store this stuff?

Well… whatever. It still looks nice (I want the Shine more anyway).

So far, these are the best pics I’ve seen of the Maxx.
    I just have 3 questions:
    1) Are there any other themes than the Verizon UI, such as changing the color of the red bars. I guess there’s no FlashUI.
    2) When playing MP3s, does the phone have 1(mono) or 2(stereo) speakers?
    3) Can you take some pictures using the phone’s camera at the max resolution and post them?

I wonder which Vphone the screen comparison is done with. The V3X has a much bigger screen than other V3’s, but this phone’s screen looks smaller than the other model.

There’s a surprise…..the battery is low. As far as I’m concerned the battery life on any razr sucks, just ask anyone who owns one. Everyone I know wants to return their razr because of the battery life and if you hassle verizon enough, they will let you switch phones. Try it.

The battery is probably low because it’s a new phone…. It’s also plugged in, so it could be flashing the low battery to show the progress of the charge or whatever.

Also, I haven’t heard any complaints about RAZR battery life except from people who have the Verizon UI. I have Verizon, but I’ve flashed my RAZR to Alltel’s firmware, and the battery life is way better. You just need a UI that doesn’t use so much power.

Why does it still have the old interface? All of Verizon’s other new phones, like the black LG flip, have newer themes. I don’t want to get a new phone and have an OS that’s four years old.

    Baldilocks says:

The screen size of the Maxx Ve is the EXACT same size as the V3c and V3m.
Both have a 2.2″ diagonal display. The difference is only in the resolution (240×320) compared to the old V3’s 176×220.

While I don’t disagree with you that you and probably many others have had problems with battery life on your V3s’. I however must be one of the lucky ones. While on my second razr(the first of which took an unmentionable fall from a second story roof) both have proved to have very good battery life. In fact i still rotate batteries in my current razr, just to keep the life in both. I’m one of those people that hardly ever turn off my cell, and neither battery has failed to make it at least 4 days on a single charge. While I must say I dont talk on the phone extensively, I would be lost without it for a day. So while some of you out there got the “lemons” a few of us out here got the cream of the crop. (knock on wood)

LOL! The person who put up that “MotoMaxx” put up an old prototype. What a moron and a half. Go to Motorola’s official website to see what it actually looks like.

Ok, so Verizon willhave the maxx Ve, and we have seen the moto version of it, which IMO looks better, liking non branded phones to begin with.

I was awaiting for the V3X, which cingular was supposed to get, but now witht he ATT merger who knows? However when I first saw the Maxx, I knew this was going to be my replacement for the V3, too bad I’m on a carrier without 800Mhz at the moment.

My question is this, currently the maxx and the maxx Ve are 800Mhz band phones.

Since I’m on cingular, but now cingular is merging with ATT here in the US, (I realize that takes time somewhat), but does ATT use the 800Mhz band?

If so, then down the line I’ll pick up an unbranded Ve and use it when able …

I wonder if the Bluetooth will be as crippled as on Verizon’s Motorola E815. The MAXX has MP3 – will owners be able to connect to a PC to download their own music to the phone?
