Unboxing: OQO 2
If there is one object of lust from the CES show I’d have to say it’s the newly announced OQO 2. Picking up where the previous models 01 and 01+ left off it adds new features, a fresh design and even more functionality. This is possibly the best UMPC portable computer out now. From the redesigned keyboard (which is now backlit!) to touch scroll bars (vertical and horizontal) to a built-in Sprint EV-DO modem it really kicks major arse. The performance is good, especially for just a small compact unit, very speedy and the zoom feature is great. Here is a little preview unboxing, and a special word from Just Blaze (click the play button below the pic). I want to give a super duper special shout out to my man Jason at Dynamism for putting this together for us and also the good people at OQO, they definitely came through! Check out the full video unboxing and review with Just next week.

Hey thanks for coming thru with the early look on the OQO. I’d seen a video for it in Engadgets site last week, but I never realized how small it was until I peeped the pics of you holding it. If they can get the price down to under $600.00 US, this might be the thing to roll with. The Nokia N800 has got some stiff competition now.
On another note, what’s the timeframe on that Just Blaze interview that you had all of us submit questions for? Been real anxious to see that…..

Hey, thanks! The “under $600″ thing gave me a pretty good laugh. I’m sure you’re busy in the land of Oz, but come around and entertain us some more soon! For now, I’m sure you have free rivers of chocolate and gumdrop trees to attend to! … $600. Heh. Good one.

Is there a bundled media app with it? As far as i know there is no driver support for VIA video acceleration under xp. In the podtech video they were playing video with a 3rd party app. There are no drivers for vista either. i expect the video performance to be pretty poor without new drivers but they could get round the problem with a 3rd party app.

I’m intrested in one to replace my aging HP4700 PPC, and am most intrested in how Video playback works.
Can it play back a 800×640 H.264 media file? (I’d hope), how about a 720P TS stream (I expect that this is a no-no, but would be nice)
Using a player like VLC PLAYER would also be nice as MS mediaplayer does not really count.

So where’s that full review you promised? I’m dying to hear independent reviews of this thing (all I’ve seen so far is people who played with it for 10 min and regurgitate the specs).
