Unboxing: HTC Cavalier

I have been looking forward to this ritual for a while now, and finally a little while ago it happened. The HTC Cavalier (S630) in the flesh unboxed. As many of you know it’s a needed upgrade to the ever popular HTC Excalibur (and all incarnations). The processor has been upgraded to a Samsung 400Mhz, flash memory of 128MB, a 2-mega pixel camera, and a slightly updated form factor. The 3G is tri-band, 850/1900/2100 and I have been zipping along Cingular’s network without a hitch so far. HSDPA baby! Signal reception is as good or better than the Excalibur and the JOGGR touch-wheel has been moved to the direct side instead of by the screen. And now for some bad news, HTC sent out a memo to all distributors saying this device has been “postponed indefinitely”. Who knows. Follow the HTC trail for more pics!

included HTC suede soft-case

JOGGR, camera button

mini-usb charging cover

power button, microSD slot, and voice notes button

yep! that’s Cingular 3G (HSDPA bitches!)

all the usual suspects HTC includes…

not bad I say, not bad!

this is really cool, the default homepage in Internet Explorer is this picture above, it integrates Microsoft Live search and it grabs the content from your Favorites and your History, click on one of the icons to see how it works

Favorites expands and shows your favorites

and History shows your history, genius!

yeah thats right 400mhz, i’m ready for some serious skypeage!

Thanks to my man Stan at E-Gadget Depot for always coming through!

Postponed indefinitely? They’d better get it out far in advance of the iPhone if they have a chance to sell a few…

It’s a little bit thicker than the dash, not by much almost same dimensions it feels like. I just got it at around 1pm today so I can’t comment on battery life too much but the battery had one bar when I got it, and it’s still on one bar now at 5pm. That’s with heavy internet usage, playing with the features etc. Not bad at all

    2 Part question:
1- If this has been postponed indefinitely why would they send you one?
2- How can I get my hands on one?

Boy Genius, since they said its temp on hold, does that mean that they will change the bands so that it will work on T-Mobile USA’s 3G network, which will use UMTS 1700MHz?

Does it have the same hybrid miniusb/headphone port as the Dash? Or something more standard like a plain old 3.5mm jack?

I have got one as well. HTC S630.

battery life: 48 hours in standby( in 2G), BT and WIFI is off. no phonecalls are made…. period.

hardware platform: same as HTC breeze, exactly the same issues!

hot look though. Mind you: this is not your Excalibur of next generation. NO!
this is htc breeze in Excalibur case. I won’t be supprised if Cavalier is postponed.

well. breeze has been discontinued by number of carriers.

    battery life is quite bad.
device loosing BT paring and outlook settings randomly.
phone freezed on ne few times so far, etc, etc.

so far it ressembles my experience with breeze. This all makes sense since Cavalier is based on the same hardware platform as breeze.

    same Radio even.

I wonder if they are delaying the phone til 3GSM next month, or even to show it off at CTIA in March.

The photos look so great. I am a user of Samsung Blackjack and would appreciate so much if the owner of this Cavalier would share the registry entries from his to add a Band Selection to my Blackjack. That would be awesome to see how different the devices are comparing the HKEY_CURRENT_USER as well as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to each another. There is no secret that Cingular keeps blocking a lot of useful features in the registry itself leaving us with fewer options. Your registry post would be a tremedous help. Thank you

The lack of HSDPA in the first gen iPhone was pretty much a dealbreaker for me so my stock was put into this phone. I hope the memo to distributors about it being delayed indefinately is just them trying to put a proper release behind it at a show or something. Also, why are you thanking Stan at E-Gadget Depot? Did he send you this, or did he give you the info on the phone being delayed?
