Thats the logical thing, but you have to realize… the iphone does not have 3G or HSDPA…so that nulls your point sadly

It is well established that Cingular will be releasing a software update with RIM for the 8700c in about a month, to include PTT. Trust me, they want to have PTT on every device they can. It’s an easy way to make more money.

Does Blackberry’s Crimson will be “Treo Killer”. When will it release? 3Q? I don’t think so. Palm Treo 680, 700, and 750 does a lot improved what I have seen.

does anyone know the deal with RIMs trade up program? after seeing this i figured i should get acquainted. yet, it doesn’t seem likely i’ll be able to offload my 8700c this way as there would be no way right now to upgrade from it now. i.e. 8700 series is not an option for trade in unit and pearl isn’t an option to trade up to.

I might have missed this, but what about the memory expansion slot and the media player? I don’t need an mp3 player but there are times I wish I had some music to listen to.

Any idea if this will support Cingular’s “push to talk” service? It’s all but confirmed officially that the 8700c will never get “push to talk” on Cingular. What about 8800?

Well, i’ve posted this before but i went to a T-Mobile corporate store and asked a REP what’s the next device after the blackberry and when will it come out. He immediately showed me the white Pearl, i was like…yeah, i knew about this one already, hehe but there’s another one besides the white pearl ( mind you, i’m intentionally making believe i dont know the name which i do) and another REP jumped up and replied, oh yeah! the crimson. I was like, does it come with a camera and he said yes and that it should hit T-Mobile sometime in February. Don’t know how accurate he is but hey…you never know.

Everyone and their mom has wi-fi now. It doesn’t make sense that a phone would be released with or without wi-fi capabilities because the first carrier that is releasing it provides wi-fi services or not. Releasing the phone with wi-fi would’ve only brought in higher sales numbers regardless of who the first carrier is to get the device.

To me it just seems that RIM was (again) slow to react to what the customers want when they threw together the spec for the 8800.

I’m pretty sure it doesn’t have wifi simply because Cingular doesn’t offer a wifi/UMA service, not because the phone doesn’t support it. T-Mobile on the other hand has tons of hotspots and has been testing out it’s wifi service (HotSpot @Home as it’s called), so when it comes out on T-Mobile I have no doubt they will have wifi enabled. Only question is, when is it coming out on T-Mobile.

I frkn KNEW theyd take out wifi.. sigh.. that would have been a big seller for me… now… since the 8800 will not have camera.. does that mean the 9xxx is the crimson?.. and it will have a camera?… sigh… more waiting? i cant wait..

No matter when it comes out someone will find a problem with it and there will be bugs and patches to implement. I just like new toys and dealing with some early bugs is an acceptable side-effect of getting the newest gadget.

Well I guess I’ll be waiting until Q4 then. I hope my 8700c holds out that long considering I got it the day it came out. I’m just hoping that we will see the date for this get pushed up.

Thanks for the update BG. A poster on Blackberryforums announced yesterday that, contrary to initial info, the first 8800 will be sans wifi. You have any info on that?

Q4??? Ghaaaaaa…talk about dropping the ball (again). You’d think with the iPhone announcement RIM would try to push the release of a 3G phone with new features/new UI up as quickly as they could!
