Cingular becomes the new AT&T Monday

Monday, January 15th, Cingular officially stops being Cingular and becomes the new at&t. Details have surfaced letting us know how the transition will happen and it seems like at&t wants to get this ball rolling pronto! According to an internal briefing, we are going to see both brands being used in ads and also at the retail level with the tagline "Cingular is now part of the new AT&T". That is until the corporate suits decide that the brand recognition of both companies is high enough to get rid of the Cingular name altogether. Continue on for the full document.

YAY I had AT&T, than got turned over to Cingular, than got mad at them and got T-Mobile, depending if they change prices of plans, and make it as friendly as ‘The Old AT&T’ was, I may switch back! Besides that name AT&T is so much better than Cingular, and defianlly easier to spell!

Man i am kinda bummed about this. I love Cingular, they are such a great company and i dont like how they are gonna slowly wedge it out to ATT because that is such a lame name. Everything about Cingular is cool, the name, the logo, the servie, their phones. I just wish they would leaves things were they are.

    Im not telling says:

They announced to all the cingular reps that ATT will start Legacy plans. In other words, “cingular-att” custoemrs will not only get to talk to cingular customers for free, but they will also get to talk to Bellsouth and Att customers for free also. This added addition will not affect the current pricing plans. But that was just what a rep told me.

This is NO way as big of a deal as it was when Cingular purchased AT&T Wireless. Now that Cingular and AT&T are finally on common systems, other than the name change EVERYTHING should be transparent to Cingular customers. No system changes, no BLUE vs Orange. Just a new name and Logo.

I hope that the new service will allow me to talk on my blackberry 8700 and not sound like I am talking into a tuna can.. The data is great, but thats where it all stops. My international service is way better then service here in the US. Shows how much better companies are in Europe vs. here in US. The data was so fast and sound quality was by far the best, other then when I had Verizon.

I wounder what logo will be on the new Plams and BB that were shipped?

AT&T Wireless originally left AT&T to shed the negative connotation of the AT&T brand because they were such a horrible company to their consumers. Now Cingular’s come full circle to be re-branded with the name they rescued AT&T Wireless from. The corporate gods have a wicked sense of humor.

I can deal with corp bs all day long, but its hard to make corp bs when you cannot talk on the phone.

I really hope cingular come full circle and the drops the most bars bs. They may have the most bars but the service is way below verizon. I only use cingular because I can use it while traveling in Europe.

So…if new people with new chips are AT&T Blue…and people with chips up until today are AT&T Orange, what are people with old Blue AT&T Wireless chips?

Anyhow, most people I know agree that AT&T should have named the rest of the company to Cingular. We all have baggage with having been ripped off by AT&T, the long distance company.

People with old AT&TWS Blue chips as of Monday are presumably up s**ts creek without a paddle?:) Sorry. I couldn’t resist.

So how does this effect our service (voice and data)? Will there be a rates hike and will I gain or lose coverage?

Also, is this grounds to bail out on contact?

The company, the services, and the prices should stay the same (but for how long who knows) — it is simply being re-branded.

I don’t believe this is grounds to bail on a contract. AT&T didn’t buy Cingular. AT&T bought Cingular’s daddy – Bellsouth. Cingular and AT&TWS were good enough to let people know that they were allowed to bail on their contracts when Cingular purchased AT&TWS, so I figure if it applies to this situation they’ll let the customer know.

Personally, I’ve used every national cellular service except for Verizon and I came back to Cingular. I don’t see myself trying to bail because of this rebranding.

I’m trying to make a homescreen for the Blackjack from a couple of the screen captures but not having much success. Anyone know where I could find those a little bit bigger?
