Apple iPhone Announced!
Damn you Steve Jobs! The iPhone was officially announced this morning over at MacWorld and let me tell you, if you haven’t seen it you need to. This thing is amazing, from OS X on the phone, to a touch-screen video iPod, and a mobile communicator i’m not sure anything takes the cake. Zune who? HTML email, web browsing, photos, the list doesn’t stop. No 3G for now, 4GB and 8GB models. Oh, and Cingular is Apple’s "exclusive" partner in the US…Click on for some more pics via Engadget.

i don’t believe it does video. but either way, it’s pretty sweet!!
It does support video. Jobs demoed “The Office” during his keynote, and it can download movies through iTunes. More on the specs at:

yea…i just read it over. great stuff!!
The DAY I get my 750 in the mail, this is announced…
Think I know what my wife is going to want to upgrade her phone to…
mG
Thank God my im due for an upgrade in March from Cingy
.
My only disappointment: tops out at 8GB. But I dig the thinness, so im willing to budge a little on this one
I’ve put together an iPhone discussion forum on my site so that anyone who wants to can share links to news, photos, video, developer tips, hacks, tools, etc. Check it out if interested at: http://billday.com/discuss/viewforum.php?f=5
First thing I’ve linked to there was my blog post with specs and keynote screenshots and pics (linked to from my earlier comment above).
600? Seriously?
I guess the same reason people will pay $300 for a no feature Razr is the same reason people will pay $600 for this. I guess if you can pay $250 for a 8GB Nano that does nothing but play music, they will shell out over $600 for this. And I wonder what the price is WITHOUT the contract!
When is the Zune-Phone coming out? lol
I’m a Mac guy, but I won’t be buying one.
Shout out to Lithium Polymer batteries and the big pink T. :p
better be able to unlock that beast
iphone 2 might be worth getting..
Yeah I think I’ll pass. Even if I had $600 to pay for this I would not buy it. Could this be a bad investment on Apple’s part or will all the Apple/iPod users buy it. I know its off topic but what about the “Video” iPod with the 2.5″ screen? Will Apple put all is eggs in the iPhone basket?
So Boy Genius, when will you be getting your hands on the iPhone?
I’m going to get an iPhone when it comes out but I’m sure by December we’ll see a new model coming with a bigger hard drive and improved features. A great thing about the device is that the software can be update easy by itunes or general apple software update.
Just watched the video on apple site. hot phone, but is it for me.. who is on plane 60x year or is for my wife. is it a toy or is is for bizz. Word, excel, task etc?
This launch will be huge. I am a cingular sales rep and all we heard all day today were customers coming in and asking questions about the iphone. Many of the customers are you average joe user, so i think apple is going for a broader demographic then just “apple users” or “ipod users”. I think the launch will be huge, but i hope cingular will embrace this device as part of its rebranding.
after all the hype, i think i’ll pass. its cool and all, but i think i prefer the current HTC models over the iPhone anyday.
I think the point of this phone is three fold
1) Keep all those other phone makers from trying to tear into Apple’s iPod dominance with a converged device
2) It has built in wi-fi, could you imagine controlling your AppleTV with a widget, or using your iPhone at your friend’s place who has an AppleTV
3) By eliminating the limitations of a physical keypad, you can turn the iPhone into virtually any other kind of device you want.
This phone is cool no doubt, but the question is will it be functional. I used a chameleon??? remote, the kind where all the buttons were touch sensitive and customizable with no tactile feedback, the batteries went dead very fast cause you were always touching it just to get it too light up so that you could see the buttons. Also how the eff do you dial on the road while driving with this thing.
Also I don’t believe I saw any mention of speech recognition, I guess if I were not putting any buttons on my device, I’d be damn sure that it had speech recognition as a backup input method.
I thought this thing was going to be revolutionary…maybe carrier independent…maybe even wifi-mobile voip first, cellular backup. Instead I see a thin I-mate Jam with fancy graphics that may or may not be buggy when its all said and done.
What kind of processor does this thing have…if it can truly run mac and not hiccup and all i have to do is get over tactile feedback…maybe I would consider giving it a shot if you can unlock to t-mobile.
I’m wondering how much Apple had to pay Cisco for the iPhone name.
Also, this device looks a lot like LG’s KE850.
-Drooling over the iPhone,
But I don’t think I’d buy without voice recognition, and GPS.
I thought everyone was going to be adding GPS?
Oh yeah, I want G3 too.
I guess it’s time to add Apple to the manufacturers list?
I have a few questions and a comment or two about the Iphone.
I see a lot of conflicting statements about the WiFi. Is there a link to a full description of the capibilities of the WiFi?
It seems like the WiFi can not be used for what I would hope for like wireless syncing. So I can not stream video or audio to the Iphone? Will this require using a hardwired USB to load songs and video on the phone?
When Jobs stated that the phone would run OSX, I said great, I may be able to port some UNIX apps to the phone. Seems like outside developers are locked out. Is this correct?
