Cingular 3G Launches in NY, CT, and MA

Cingular has been hard at work giving us our high speed data in a catch up race with Verizon’s EV-DO network for a while now and it seems like they are finally getting there. Cingular has officially launched 3G HSDPA networks in most of the NY metro area, almost all of Connecticut, and most of Massachusetts. This is just in time to support the new devices like the Blackjack and the upcoming enough already Treo 750. Compared to EDGE, 3G is a huge leap forward and with HSDPA we can use voice with data. Other parts of the country are experiencing 3G but we have no official word on all the locations. 3G map coming soon

It seems like they are doing some local testing here in LA. The U indicator on my 8525 is lighting up in a few areas. I was originally told by Cingular rep that it would be up in mid-November.

Dallas and all the suburbs and most of Houston have great coverage with the 3Gness. The U icon rarely ever goes off on my 8525; if it does it’s because of known areas that get bad reception. The thing between switching from EDGE and HSDPA that blaze mentioned is gone it’s been switching back up fine. It’s well worth it in TX. It’s nice and fast too. Oh and shout out to the 850 band.

I dont agree with the “most” figure for Mass and Connecticut. Not even a 3rd of each state is covered.
