Good luck on your purchase. I will say that the numbers looked funny to me at first but they are a different color and when you are looking for numbers they actually kind of jump out at you. You might want to take a look at some of the reviews on the pearl before you jump on one. First of all it does not take advantage of the 3G network and I have read reviews where people are having problems with the “pearl” being too sensative and missing calls when the keyboard is locked and the pearl itself is nudged.

If anyone knows a way of getting around the $8.99 per month fee for streaming xm on the blackjack please advise. I tried to input my subscription info and it did not work.

After one real full day of use I am really enjoying my blackjack.

To follow up on whay Biscut said above, I also looked over the Blackjack today, but passed on the phone. I need to carry my phone on my side, I don’t like the proprietary issues as well, and there aren’t accessories currently available. The keys don’t lay out well for me; I don’t care for the positions of the numbers for example, and they don’t have a different feel than the letters-which would help. I’m looking forward to buying a Pearl on Tuesday, but this smart-phone certainly will have a audience for users who can embrace the design and great features the Blackjack has to offer. In the end, it’s the reliability of Blackberry for me—and I really love the way The Pearl looks too-for me, it’s got it all.

Got mine yesterday! The form factor is quite nice and things seem to work intuitively. I personally like the fact that it does not look like a flashy -bling-bling type of gadget. I did have some troubles getting the email properly set up but seem to have things worked out and running smoothly. I do think that the headset situation, battery life, and charging/sync plug situation is somewhat of a rip off meaning that just like sony, samsung has made everything proprietary. I personally like the phone but will need to use it for at least a week or so before I can give it a full thumbs up. I will say that for the money, you get a lot of bang! If you put this up against other phones with similar guts then the form factor becomes a major selling point. I personally dont like to have my phone mounted on my side like a trophy or an electronic leash and would rather keep it in my pocket so size does matter. I will keep up with the posts and give a full thums up or a return receipt in the coming weeks.

Stopped by the Cingular store on the 16th and there it was…to which my girlfriend replied “It looks like a 80’s calculator.” To a point she’s right. It’s very spartan in its design compared to the Dash, Q, and Treos. It’s got a home for the feature loving people of the world, but the style-concious people will want something a bit more showy.

I spoke to a good friend of mine at the corporate offices here in New York and he mentioned that I wouldn’t need PDA Connect to get data on this phone. Unless I was going to be using Goodlink or something to that effect, my MediaMax 200 plan would work just fine.

Just got off the phone with my local Cingular and confirmed that the Blackjack is shipping to them, and will be available on Thursday/Friday. It was suggested to stay in touch, but to plan on stopping in on Saturday morning. No delivery date is still available for The Pearl, and I was reminded that they offer an unconditional 30 day return in any event.

Yea I got the same email today, it was in my inbox. I am a rep and the Data manager said that they were going back and forth about it. I am kind of glad because you get more for your money with the media net packages. (19.99 for internet, email, CV, and 200 texts is a great deal). It is an easy sale for me.

Correction – turns out neither Danny or I were correct. I just got this email from an insider “No, you need to sign up for Media.NET. Smartphone unlimited is for business users. This is not defined as a smartphone. I would suggest that when you go into a store on Thursday (a colleague of mine in Texas will be getting back to you with availability in Austin area) you ask the sales person about your options. That’s your best bet”.

It looks like there may be some options on pricing, we will see in the next few days.

Danny, I think you are mis-informed. I spoke with a rep and he told me that he thought it would need a $40 data plan and that they would probably drop the $20 plan because only two pnones work on that plan. If you read the info about the phone it states it will require an “unlimited data plan”. If you take a look at:

it appears to me that cingular has raised the price on plans to pay for the new 3G network. Click around on the link above and you will see all the data plans have seemingly gone up in price (the corporate BB data plan is now $49.99).

Hopefully there will be some sort of introductory promotion or a price difference for coporate vs. individual plans.

Hey Biscuit, the unlimited data plan is $19.99 because it is going to use the smartphone connect feature. For $29.99 you can get 1000 txt messages and unlimited internet. You are thinking about the $44.99 corporate blackberry plan.

It looks like the unlimited data plan is $44.99 per month. I think this will be a drawback to many individuals purchasing this phone without corporate backing.

I think they sould offer two plans just as they do with the BB, one for corporate business and one for individuals…….just my .02.

Given the press release, you obviously were correct. I must say, if I or anyone I know put together this kind of presentation, even for internal use, I would be either fired or severely reprimanded for shoddy work. I guess that does explain why support is so poor from these companies.

Yes it is, and people have commented on the authenticity of it. I can assure you this is 100% legit, and even more shocking, very very recent. The points everyone made are completely valid on how there are a ton of errors on this and to be frank I don’t think that is a problem, this is an internal document and now you get a sense on why people who work for cellular companies are not educated on the products

What does it mean when it says:

Memory: ROM 128MB, RAM 64MB (PDA)
ROM 64MB, RAM 64MB (Phone)

Does this mean it has different memory allocation for different modes or is there a 128MB chip for PDA use and a separate 64MB chip for phone use? The latter seems unlikely, but it is just one of many things about this presentation that are off. For example, it says Mega Pixel, not megapixel. Also, the i600 has wifi did they remove it for the Cingular version, its not mentioned in any of the slides? These, along with the other oddities already mentioned make the authenticity of this document highly questionable. Perhaps Boy Genius really did get this from a Cingular insider who just did not know how to use spell check and was lazy about checking facts.

Looks like a fake to me. Dash with proprietary OS? E62 with WiFi? BlackJack with front camera? This looks like a shot of the original photos without the Cingular logo.

Later version with the logo have not shown the front camera. We will see next week but I say it’s a fake.

“When I buy the BlackJack I will look smart because only the BlackJack has the looks and the stuff I need” This is the worst PR ever. It can’t be authentic.

anyone else realize this says that the E62 has wifi? I know that the e61 one does, but the e62 definitely does not.
