Hands on with the Bentley Flying Spur (Bluetooth)

The Bentley Flying Spur is Bentley’s four-door version of the popular coupe. Drastically changing the technology inside for the better made me want to take a more in depth look at what this car has to offer. Unlike the GT you no longer have to use a peasant Nokia phone as your car phone. Throwing away the standard Pop-Port connector and adding Bluetooth could not be a more welcome change. It gets better. This isn’t just bluetooth here, this is rSAP Bluetooth. Should I stop? No way. The Bentley Flying Spur also provides a SIM card reader in the armrest which works so flawlessly a tear started to roll down my face. The menu and GUI might not be the prettiest thing in the world, but it does what Bentley does best; keep it simple, keep it classy, and have it work perfectly. Click on for some more explanations of how this technology integrates into the car and more pictures than you probably care for.

This is the LCD screen that controls the Bluetooth. Beneath it is a simple directional wheel to select your options.

Here is the SIM card slot I was referring to. Simply drop the card right in, and your good to go! It uses the built-in antenna in the car so your reception is improved by at least 2-3 times.

This is the main control screen throughout the car. You can read text messages at anytime but you can’t compose one. I know, sad.

Oh look, a message from Bentley

On the steering wheel there are many different controls from voice commands, send/end key, select wheel, and the obvious volume buttons.

Here is the display you are most likely to look at while driving. It offers a slimmed down version of the main screen shown earlier.

The 8010 is not listed as being compatible with the Spur rSAP car kit hence the phone book problem. My CGT does not display the number of the call waiting either. This car kit sucks so badly!
neww 2007 bentley GTC have tried to pair verizon Krzr and my CIngular Blackberry–can’t need help don’t care if i dont have full SIM car features–want handsfree–desperate–
please continue–what phones are compatible–don;t care if i get all features–just hands free–now have verizon KRZR and CIngular BB 8700—help
Are you able to even use the call waiting feature? I do not know how to do it. Is there a way to erase the missed call list so that I will know what is ne and what is old?
My wife just got a Nokia 8801 for her Flying Spur. Everything works pretty well. I don’t know about call waiting, but so far everything we’ve tested works.
I mistakenly said 8010.My phone is the 8801 as well. Bentley suggested this.Let me know if you figure out how to use the call waiting. Are you able to retrieve your voice mail messages?
ANOTHER QUESTION–WHY DOES IT MATTER WHAT KIND OF SIM CARD PHONE YOU USE, IT YOU PUT THE SIM CAR IN THE SLOT–DOES NOT THAT BUILT IN APPARATUS TAKE OVER AND THUS YOU NEED NOT BUY THE 8801???2007 GTC
you are correct. If you use the sim card slot it does not matter which phone you have. With the 801 you do not need to use the sim card slot
Right, by using the SIM card profile, instead of the rSAP profile it will read the SIM and you don’t need a phone. In addition I heard that Bentley was improving the Bluetooth system and integration except that we won’t be seeing that until around ‘09.
the advantage to the 8010 is that is your only phone( and phone number). You can use it as your every day phone and use it in the car as well
i did try the the 8801, and it does work—anyone try the Nokia 6300—lighter phone–may buy today–thanks
To add insult to injury, 3G sim cards are not compatible with the built in sim slot!
The 6300 is not on the compatibilty list provided by Bentley.
The answer is to go to your participating service provider (Vodafone or Orange in the UK) and get a multi sim account where the same number is on two sim cards. Leave one plugged into the sim reader in the car and put one in a decent phone which you carry with with you. Tada!
the 6300 is a new phone, about a month old, and has bluetooh 2.0—i think it works–will try this weekend when i take the car out of the garage where there is service—
well the 6300 works–instant when you get in the car—have not figured out voice command yet or the voice command of the nav system
You can get an adapter for the sims–the N95 comes with one. The gou at Cingular that set my pone up seems to have kept it–I need to go back and collect it.
i have the 2006 flying spur, along with the nokia 8801 cellphone, and i have the same problem when connecting the cell phone, it redownloads the messages and takes approx 5 five mins, after which it mesages me to let me know that it downloaded the message. superb car, could fix the technology somewhat
I have difficulty playing CDs burnt from iTunes in my CGT. Is anyone experiencing the same issue and is there a workaround. I’ve tried using Nero and MS Media player without success.
no problem–burned two playlist–about 15 tunes-2007 gtc
I have the car too. The telephone reception etc. is excellent, but the whole phone system is actually horrible. I’ve only found one phone that will work properly with it; the Nokia 6822, which is a great phone, but I would like a PDA and can’t find one that works with the car. And dialing the phone if the number is not on your SIM card- forget about it- you’re sure to get killed!!! Have you found any PDA’s that fully function?
The only phone that I’ve been able to use is the Nokia 6822. I would like a PDA but can’t find one that works with the rSAP. I can’t even find anyone who knows what rSAP is. Bentley is no help at all. It’s like it’s not their problem.
Nokia 6822 works great with the rSAP. Great!!!
I have a 2005 Bentley Continental GT, have no idea which Nokia phone would work with it. Have a nokia base in it but no phone. Anyone have this info? I am in USA.
Thanks in advance
Nokia 6200 is one phone that will fit in that cradle, it is a GSM phone previously offered by AT&T so it has 850/1900MHz.
I have a 2005 GT with the system pictured above. Does anyone know if I can make my Motorol Q work with this system?
